Colorado Rockies Avoid Arbitration, Agree to Deal with Newly-Acquired Pitcher

The soon-to-be 29-year-old native of Canada figures to slot into a rotation that has all kinds of question marks because of injuries to German Marquez and Antonio Senzatela.

He's coming off a down year with Cleveland, going 4-7 in 2023 with a 5.24 ERA. He pitched in just 19 games and threw just 99.2 innings.

Lifetime, his numbers are much better, as he's 35-23 with a 3.83 ERA. He was part of playoff teams in Cleveland during the 2020 and 2022 seasons.

He made his Major League debut with the San Diego Padres in 2019.

One of the worrisome things for Quantrill as he goes to Colorado is that he doesn't miss bats very much. He has just 427 strikeouts in 570.2 innings. In that thin mountain air, you better be able to miss some bats because if contact gets made, it has a chance to go a long way. That will be a major concern for Quantrill as he look to regains the form that made him an exciting prospect several years ago.

The Rockies are coming off a season in which they finished last in the National League West. It doesn't figure to get much better in 2024, as the team pairs with the Dodgers, Giants, Padres and Diamondbacks in a highly competitive division.
