Correa and Bundy Lead Twins Past White Sox 5-1

The Chicago White Sox continued their struggles against Dylan Bundy and Carlos Correa homered to help the visitors to a 5-1 victory on Sunday. The Sox took the weekend series by winning the first two contests and are now 6-7 against the Twins this season.

Correa went deep in the fifth with a two-run homer to left-center off Lucas Giolito. Those were the only runs Giolito allowed in his five innings of work. The righty labored through his start with traffic on the bases in every inning. He fell behind hitters consistently and surrendered six hits and two walks while fanning five. It was effective enough to keep the score within reach for the Sox' offense.

“It’s kind of par for the course for the bulk of my season,” Giolito said. “Just not quite there. But I battled. Gave it my all.”

Bad Habits

The White Sox' offense unfortunately never truly showed up in the contest. They mustered only one run and failed to bring home a second run with a runner on third and one out in the seventh inning.

Gavin Sheets doubled and Yasmani Grandal followed with a base hit. AJ Pollock doubled to score Sheets, but Leury Garcia’s bunt failed to bring in the run from third. Adam Haseley, who pinch-ran for Grandal, was tagged out at home. Romy Gonzalez struck out to end the threat.

The Twins finished with 12 hits after they were held to just one in Saturday night’s loss. It was a two-out single by Luis Arraez in the ninth inning that stopped Dylan Cease’s no-hit bid.

Adding to their cause on Sunday, Max Kepler scored on Kendall Graveman’s wild pitch in the eighth inning. Jose Miranda plated the final runs of the game with a two-run double in the ninth inning.

Sox' acting manager Miguel Cairo said he expects Luis Robert to return to the lineup Monday at Seattle. Robert was activated from the paternity list prior to Sunday's game.

As Robert returned, the White Sox optioned Davis Martin to Triple-A Charlotte.

Michael Kopech threw a bullpen session and pitching coach Ethan Katz said he looked great. “He's right there,” Katz said, “so he'll be back soon with us.”

Tony La Russa missed his sixth straight game. The club has not provided a further update on his status.
