Could RSN Group Collapse Again?
USA Today Sports

The name may have changed, but it appears the fate of a regional sports network (RSN) could find itself back in the hands of a judge.

According to Tom Friend of Sports Business Journal, Main Street Sports Group, the company that owns FanDuel Sports Network, appears to once again be on the verge of collapse and could shutter if not sold by the end of January.

The RSN has already missed a media rights payment in December to the St. Louis Cardinals according to Friend, as it looks to be acquired by international streaming service DAZN, and Friend says more than a dozen NBA franchises were told by the league that they too could find their payments missing.

History Of Missed Payments Led To Chapter 11 Proceedings

This isn’t the first time that Main Street Sports Group has missed payments to teams.  Under its old moniker, Diamond Sports Group, the company began missing payments in early 2023, leading to the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protections.  A number of teams that had been receiving payments from Diamond saw the company break their agreements under the proceedings, with teams like Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins, the Phoenix Suns of the NBA, and Anaheim Ducks of the NHL scrambling to figure out how to ensure local audiences could still see their games.

But 29 other teams had their deals renegotiated, taking lower payments in order to remain with the network, which emerged from bankruptcy at the beginning of 2025 with a much lighter debt schedule and new sponsorship deals from both Amazon and FanDuel.

If the prospective deal with DAZN falls through, sources tell Friend that Main Street plans to finish out the NBA and NHL season “with only minimal impact,” but dissolve its business afterward and not seek bankruptcy protection a second time.

It’s unclear what the nine MLB teams who have deals with Main Street Sports Group (the Cardinals, Braves, Brewers, Reds, Royals, Tigers, Angels, Marlins, and Rays) would do for their television broadcasts, but the possibility of Major League Baseball taking over control of those teams’ telecasts would be a likely solution.
