One of the more important things for the Boston Red Sox in 2025 is whether they become buyers or sellers at the MLB trade deadline. With a little over a month until the deadline, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow revealed his team's direction at the trade deadline.

According to Rob Bradford on Audacy.com, Breslow and the Red Sox are uncertain of the direction they'll take at the MLB trade deadline. A little over a month away, the Red Sox are unsure of their plan at the deadline.

Breslow answered, "Yeah, I think so," when asked if the Red Sox organization was still looking through their options at the deadline. The indecision isn't about whether they'll be involved, but what areas will need improving.

"We can say our starting pitching has been inconsistent," Breslow said. "That is absolutely true. But we also have some guys who are starting to turn the corner. We want to make sure when we identify an area we can improve..."

Boston's plan, based on Breslow's comments, is to target whatever need is most apparent come the MLB trade deadline. Whether it's a starter, a reliever, or a new first baseman, Breslow isn't certain which area will be the most pressing at the deadline.

His plans are changing as the team continues to play games. Breslow is keeping multiple doors open in case the team needs to make a move in an area previously not considered a priority.

While Breslow's trade deadline plan is uncertain at the moment, it's only due to his flexibility come the deadline. There are obvious needs, like a reliever, a starter, and a first baseman. But, Breslow isn't committing yet in case their in-house options can solve that problem instead.

At the moment, it's a confusing strategy. But, considering the Red Sox aren't in a postseason spot, and could be forced to sell, Breslow's patience is the proper stance to take at the trade deadline.

He and the Red Sox are uncertain of what they're going to do because they are constantly evaluating the roster. Breslow plans to bolster the roster, but the way he's going to do so is still uncertain.
