In the middle of the Chicago Cubs' pivotal series against the St. Louis Cardinals, and following their 8-2 loss on Monday night, the Cubs announced a roster move.

The Cubs announced on Twitter/X that they are optioning starting pitcher Ben Brown to Triple-A, and activating right-handed pitcher Porter Hodge off the 15-day injured list.

This move comes one day after the Browns' 14th start of the season. It just so happened to be his worst one. In five innings, Brown has up nine hits, eight earned runs, and walked two batters while striking out just three.

He surrendered four home runs and was on the hook for his sixth loss of the season. Sitting at 4-6, with a 6.13 ERA, Brown now heads down to Triple-A to reset and look to find his groove once more.

Hodge, meanwhile, is coming off the injured list after getting banged up with a hip injury amid his recovery from an oblique issue. But, after missing a month, the Cubs reliever is back in the fold for their series against the Cardinals.

Before he was placed on the injured list, Hodge had a 5.12 ERA, along with 19 strikeouts and 11 walks in 19.1 innings. He also had two saves, two blown saves, and was part of the Cubs' lackluster bullpen to begin the year. But now, back from injury, he joins one of the game's best bullpens as of late.

After the first game of the Cardinals series ended in disaster, the Cubs made a move, demoting the pitcher who led the team to their fourth loss in five games.

With the Cardinals and Brewers on their tail, the Cubs needed to shake things up. With Shota Imanaga also soon to return, more changes could be coming for the Cubs' pitching staff in the Cardinals series.
