Cubs' Brad Wieck to have second heart procedure in two years

Chicago Cubs left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck underwent a cardiac ablation procedure in February 2020 and was placed on the injured list July 9 with an irregular heartbeat.

According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Wieck will undergo another heart ablation procedure to address his ailment. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Friday, and there's no established timetable for his return to the active roster.

"He's been dealing with this for a little while now," Chicago manager David Ross explained before Friday afternoon's matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks. "I think he's in a good place with it. I think he was going to try and avoid it and went through another episode."

Wieck joined the Cubs via a trade from the San Diego Padres in the summer of 2019 but made only one appearance for Chicago during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He had surrendered no runs across 15 appearances during the current campaign before hitting the IL.
