Unfortunately, Pete Crow-Armstrong is now dealing with a slight injury, as it looked like he hurt his right knee during the Cubs game on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox in a rundown in the second inning.
Out of caution, the Cubs kept him out of the lineup on Monday night.
While concerning, Craig Counsell didn’t make it sound like it'd be too big of an issue for the Cubs when speaking to reporters about the situation.
“He just banged it up and woke up and felt a little swelling,” manager Craig Counsell said, per The Athletic. “We’re just going to try to give him the day today, and hopefully, back in there tomorrow.”
It remains uncertain what the exact plan is for Crow-Armstrong once he does return, but it's promising that they don't expect it to be a long-term issue.
The last thing the Cubs want to deal with is an injury to the second-best player on their roster, and a player who has arguably been one of the top 10 players in Major League Baseball this season.
According to Counsell, he believes the injury happened during the rundown, noting that he's not completely sure what happened, but they think it came from that.
“He’s not completely sure what had happened,” Counsell said. “But if you look at the replays, it was likely on that one. That’s why it was a blocking-the-bag situation, because the slide was clearly altered. If you watch the slide and replay, it’s not a normal-looking slide. And further reason that it was blocking the bag.”
For his replacement on Monday night, the Cubs opted to go with Seiya Suzuki in center, which the front office and coaching staff obviously don't want to do long-term if this issue persists.
