Concrete numbers show Cubs' Matthew Boyd facing trouble against Brewers 2 Cubs manager Craig Counsell is seen during an interview before the Brewers open workout ahead of the National League Division Series on Friday October 3, 2025 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Chicago Cubs are in a tough win-or-go-home scenario for the remainder of their 2025 National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers after suffering back-to-back losses on the road in Game 1 and Game 2.

Chicago has clearly struggled offensively in the series. Despite scoring first in both Game 1 and Game 2, it ended up suffering losses via wide margins. In Game 2, Chicago put three runs at the top of the first inning but coughed up nothing the rest of the way, as the Brewers shut them down.

Craig Counsell’s Cubs clearly need their offense to start going and be more consistent this Wednesday, as they face elimination at Wrigley Field against the visiting Brewers.

Cubs’ Counsell has firm message to team ahead of Game 3 against Milwaukee

Recognizing the urgency, Chicago manager Craig Counsell admits the tough position his team is in. However, he also knows that the Cubs still have control of their fate in the series.

“We put ourselves in a hole this series, no question about it. We get to decide how the story ends,” Counsell told reporters before Game 3 against the Brewers, per Marquee Sports Network.

It’s just high time for the Cubs’ offense to wake up, and a change in scenery could give them a lift. In two games in Milwaukee in the series, they hit just .156/.239/.359. They were also just 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Among the eight teams in the divisional round, Chicago owns the worst BABIP with .162.
