The Chicago Cubs are dealing with a number of pitching injuries at the moment. Every team deals with injuries throughout the long 162-game season, but the Cubs have been hit especially hard by the injury bug. Manager Craig Counsell shared three important pitching injury updates on Tuesday, via Bruce Levine.

“Cubs RHP Jameson Taillon could go to affiliate and rehab outing later this week. He threw a session today. LHP Drew Pomeranz is making his way at Triple A. Daniel Palencia just getting started and not expected back until after the All Star break. Updates all from Craig Counsell,” Levine reported.

Taillon is dealing with a hamstring injury while Palencia was placed on the injured list with a flexor strain. Pomeranz is battling his way back from an elbow injury.

It goes without saying, but Chicago is obviously hopeful that all three pitchers can return sooner rather than later. Both the bullpen and starting rotation have been decimated by injuries throughout the season, yet the ball club has been able to remain competitive. The Cubs could emerge as a legitimate contender once injured players begin returning.

The Cubs entered their game on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres with a 47-38 overall record. Chicago is in second place in the National League East standings. They are trailing the first place Milwaukee Brewers by 5.5 games in the division at the moment.

Updates on Palencia, Taillon and Pomeranz’s injury statuses will continue to be monitored and provided as they are made available.
