Cubs' Jed Hoyer Makes Brewers Admission Before MLB Trade Deadline
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs made an excellent decision to hire Craig Counsell. Jed Hoyer did the right job by poaching him from the Milwaukee Brewers, but unfortunately for the Cubs, Milwaukee hasn't gone away.

Frankly, the Brewers look to be one of the better teams in the National League once again, sitting at 59-40 and 10-0 over their last 10.

It's questionable how the Brewers continue to win the way they do.

On paper, they’re a decent team, but not as talented as some of the other top teams in the National League.

With a below-average payroll, the Brewers also win games by playing baseball the right way.

Counsell was a big part of that in Milwaukee, but the organization has continued to do a great job over the past two seasons without him.

And it sounds like the Cubs also understand that the Brewers aren't going away anytime soon. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Hoyer had some telling comments about Milwaukee.

“They’re a really good team," Hoyer, Cubs president of baseball operations, told reporters Friday. “I don’t think they’re going to go away.’’

With the Cubs now being tied with the Brewers in the National League Central standings, this should give Hoyer more reason to go out and make a move.

If he can say that the Brewers are a “really good” team, which they continue to show that they are, then there's no excuse for him not to go out and make the necessary moves to win the division.
