Cubs' Jordan Wicks (oblique) exits game vs. Cardinals
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Cubs left-hander Jordan Wicks exited Friday afternoon's game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals after just 1 2/3 innings due to an oblique injury.

After striking out the first two batters of the second inning, Wicks allowed a single by Dylan Carlson and appeared to be experiencing some discomfort before Brendan Donovan stepped up to the plate. Wicks seemed to grab at his lower back while speaking with Chicago manager Craig Counsell and a trainer.

Wicks threw 28 pitches prior to his departure. He gave up two hits without allowing a run or walking anyone.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks took over for Wicks.

Wicks, 24, was activated from the 15-day injured list last Friday after dealing with a left forearm strain. He owns a 1-2 record and 4.18 ERA across seven appearances (six starts) this season.
