Cubs' Kyle Tucker Extension Timeline Receives Big Update

The Chicago Cubs are off to an impressive start in 2025, which is highlighted by a 12-9 record, a plus 36 run differential and are currently sitting in first place in the NL Central.

However, one of the biggest questions lingering within the organization is whether or not outfielder Kyle Tucker will receive an extension anytime soon, as he's slated to hit free agency when the season concludes.

In an article for The New York Post, columnist Jon Heyman dropped some important insight as to when the conversation of a contract between the two parties could start to heat up

"There’s no indication the Cubs are discussing a potential extension yet with superstar OF Kyle Tucker, but word is they may well talk this summer," Heyman wrote.

Of course, another big question is how much he is set to make, with Heyman also noting that Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s 14-year, $500 million extension is a good comparison

That doesn't seem like a horrible deal, considering so far this season, Tucker has appeared in 21 games, accumulating 83 at-bats, 25 hits, five home runs, 19 RBI, 16 walks and an OPS of .988.

Throughout his first seven full seasons at the MLB level, he has also compiled some impressive personal accolades, including three All-Star appearances, one Gold Glove and one Silver Slugger.

The Cubs' willingness to hand out a deal of that size to Tucker will also be tested, considering shortstop Dansby Swanson's seven-year, $177 million contract is the largest in franchise history.
