Cubs manager provides an update on Alex Bregman’s recovery

The Chicago Cubs are in wait-and-see mode with Alex Bregman.

The Cubs star was hit in the face by a foul ball on Sunday in a scary scene, and he suffered multiple facial fractures.

Bregman’s status for the postseason remains unclear, but Cubs manager Craig Counsell provided an update on Thursday before the game against the Miami Marlins at Wrigley Field.

“He needs to get the swelling down still,” Counsell said, via Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. “I think some of the pain has set in a little bit, honestly, which makes sense. But he’s feeling good in terms of the hitting part. That went well. He’s happy with how that went, so we’ll just do a little more, run around a little bit more today and see how that makes him feel. And we’ll just keep progressing.”

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Bregman said he wanted to get an at-bat, although Counsell did not insert Bregman at all during the game. Bregman also was not in the starting lineup for Thursday’s series finale against Miami.
