The MLB lockout continues to persist as we creep into February. However, there is some encouraging news out of Japan. According to a report, Japanese star Seiya Suzuki has a short list of three or four teams and the Chicago Cubs are one of those four.

Suzuki was posted by his NPB back in November, but just like the rest of the MLB level players, he cannot negotiate with anyone during this lockout. However, Suzuki will inevitably have plenty of suitors whenever the lockout concludes.

The Japanese star is widely considered one of the best outfielders to come from Japan in quite some time. This past season, Suzuki slashed .317/.433/.636 with 38 home runs and 88 RBIs. In addition, he struck out 89 times compared to 88 walks, showing incredible plate discipline. Since 2016, Suzuki’s worst power season was 25 home runs and 75 RBIs. He’s also a consistent .300 hitter throughout his Japanese career.

Suzuki would be a welcomed addition to the Cubs’ outfield. He is only 27 years old, meaning he is entering his prime and can help this up and coming Cubs team win in the near future. Naturally, there is no guarantee he picks the Cubs. However, the Cubs being considered a favorite is encouraging news that the front office is likely to spend and spend on quality talent.
