Cubs Send Infielder to Philadelphia Phillies Via Trade
USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Cubs have completed a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday according to multiple reports. The Cubs sent infielder Esteban Quiroz to the Phillies in exchange for cash considerations.

It's an interesting move as Quiroz was not on the 40-man roster and likely was not going to make the club out of spring training after slashing .143/.143/.143 in seven at-bats this spring.

Quiroz made his Major League debut last season with Chicago when he was up for 40 at-bats. The infielder slashed .275/.370/.275 and registered an OPS+ of 87.

The Phillies have executed their second trade this week in an attempt to establish more depth as they have dealt with mounting injuries this spring. The most recent was to Rhys Hoskins who suffered a non-contact injury to his knee on Thursday in a Grapefruit League game against the Detroit Tigers.

This is not seen as a move to replace Hoskins as much as it is to replenish depth ahead of the 2023 MLB season.
