Cubs Should Look North of The Border For Next Closer

If the Chicago Cubs have any hopes of the postseason, they need a bona fide closer to put them over the hump. As the MLB Trade Deadline gets closer, more teams are discovering where they stand in 2024.

One of those teams is heading for a crossroads after many seasons of disappointing finishes. The Toronto Blue Jays could be a trade partner should they consider a sell-off.

The 31-year-old closer slots in nicely for any team with postseason aspirations. With the likes of Mark Leiter Jr. and Hector Neris, the backend of the bullpen will get that much better.

A 4.91 ERA may look disappointing, but Romano has the pedigree to give hope for a quick turnaround. The Cubs could be opportunistic in acquiring the closer. If his market isn't as robust, his services may come at a discount.

With a battle brewing for the NL Central, reinforcements need to be on the way if the Cubs have any hopes to compete. The Blue Jays appear to have many players who fit these needs.

Being only two games out of first place, the Cubs still have a chance to turn things around from their recent struggles. As the bullpen has shown improvement, it still lacks a true closer.

As June approaches, the Cubs need to pick up the pace when it comes to midseason additions. With a struggling offense and the insistence on keeping Kyle Hendricks around, they seem to be complacent.

They have the prospects to acquire whomever they see fit for a stretch run. Romano is a viable option that provides experience in a very important role.

If the Cubs continue to rest on their laurels, they'll be in for a rude awakening. There is no track record with this group that suggests brighter days are ahead.
