The Chicago Cubs are entering the second day of Spring Training games and still adding depth to the organization. According to Chicago Sun-Times' Maddie Lee, the Cubs are adding journeyman outfielder Greg Allen to a minor-league deal with an invitation to Spring Training in Mesa, AZ.

Allen has been all around the majors over the course of his career. With a career-high 91 games in any given season, Allen figures as more of a minor-league depth option than a long-term answer in the majors. However, Allen brings valuable experience over his seven seasons in MLB. Allen has made stops with the Cleveland Guardians, San Diego Padres, New York Yankees, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Allen owns a career .231/.300/.340 slash line with 11 career home runs and 48 RBIs. Allen is certainly not an offensive juggernaut, and hasn't shown a lot of promise either. However, he provides veteran experience in the organization and another player to help compete against some of the young guys.
Allen certainly won't take away reps from a player like Pete Crow-Armstrong, but it is always helpful having depth at every position in the organization.
