The Chicago Cubs (34-21) had a three-game lead atop the NL Central heading into Wednesday night, and outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is a big reason why. The 23-year-old was slashing .274/.303/.553 with 14 homers and 49 RBI across 55 games before Wednesday's bout with the Colorado Rockies (9-46), the latter of which ranked second in baseball.
Crow-Armstrong is having a career year, as he slashing just .237/.286/.384 with 10 homers and 47 RBI over 123 games last season, his first full big-league campaign. The 6-foot, 184-pounder played 13 contests after getting called up for the first time in 2023.
Crow-Armstrong etched his name in the record books with a solo blast to right field in the fourth inning on Wednesday.
The southpaw is the third-ever player with 15 homers and 16 stolen bases through his team’s first 56 games. The homer gave Chicago a 2-0 lead.
Crow-Armstrong now leads the Cubs in homers as of this writing, surpassing fellow outfielder Seiya Suzuki.

Chicago entered Wednesday on a three-game winning streak and will sweep Colorado if it secures the victory. The club also came into the contest 1.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies (35-19) for the NL's best record.
Up next for the Cubs is a home set with the Cincinnati Reds (28-28) before hitting the road to face the Washington Nationals (24-30), Detroit Tigers (37-20), and the Phillies. After that, they'll host the Pittsburgh Pirates (21-36), Milwaukee Brewers (29-28), and Seattle Mariners (30-23).
Chicago is on pace to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
