Following a lackluster 2022 campaign, the Chicago Cubs are trying to make it up to their hardcore fanbase.
After reviewing trends and ticket prices, the Cubs have reportedly lowered the cost of season tickets for the 2023 season.
Cale Vennum, the senior vice president of Marquee 360, who oversees the Cubs' ticket sales, announced that all season tickets would be reduced by 5.1%. All 22-season ticket sections at Wrigley Field will receive a price cut, anywhere from 2.7% to 6.7%.
"Fans have a lot of choices and they're making a big commitment to us when they decide to have season tickets," Vennum said. "And we wanted to be responsive to the competitive environment and economic environment that they're seeing today."
According to Jon Greenberg of The Athletic, the Cubs' season-ticket decrease is the largest in baseball over the last 30 years.
"We're really hopeful that providing a decrease to our season-ticket holders is going to demonstrate that commitment that we have to them and the support that they've given us on this journey to build back the next great Cubs team," Vennum said.
The Cubs finished with a losing record for a second consecutive season in 2022. Perhaps Wednesday's announcement will sway disheartened Cubs fans on the fence to come out to the ballpark next spring.
