The Chicago Cubs made another trade, their favorite form of transaction so far this offseason. Reports and rumors have indicated that the Cubs and Seattle Mariners have been talking about various players all winter. Finally, the two teams made a deal, but not the one fans were probably expecting or hoping for. Per the Mariners , the Cubs have sent infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Seattle for cash considerations.
We have acquired INF/OF Miles Mastrobuoni from the Cubs, and he has been added to the 40-man roster.

Mastrobuoni appeared in 50 games with the Cubs during the 2024 season, slashing .194/.245/.224 with three doubles and four RBIs. Mastrobuoni's impact wasn't at the plate, but rather in the field with his ability to move around the diamond. During his 111-game sample size with the Cubs over two seasons, he spent time at second base, third base, shortstop, left field, right field, designated hitter, and even made one pitching appearance.
With the addition of Vidal Brujan earlier this offseason, another Swiss Army knife-type player, Mastrobuoni's need on the bench was no longer present. By trading the infielder, the Cubs also free up a 40-man roster spot for any other moves they make this winter. Perhaps his spot will be used on some late-inning relievers ahead of the annual Cubs Convention this coming weekend.
