D-Backs seek to avoid sweep against Tigers on Wednesday

DETROIT – The D-Backs will look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday morning in Detroit against the Tigers at Comerica Park, as the Snakes seek to get back on the winning track.

Having lost the last four games in a row, the Snakes have become unglued after the All-Star break and have seemed to abandon postseason hope heading into the month of August. With a little over two months left of the 2025 season, Arizona might just be going through the motions until the offseason.

Wednesday’s pitching matchups:

Ryne Nelson will look to continue his recent stretch of strong outings. In his last two starts, Nelson has only allowed one earned run and five hits in 12.0 innings pitched. Nelson has slowly become one of Arizona’s most stable pitchers so far, and is one of the bright spots the Snakes have this season.

The Tigers will be looking for Chris Paddack to get the job done on Wednesday. Paddack has a 3-9 record with a 4.95 ERA on the season and just a 1-4 record at home. In his last outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Paddack pitched 6.0 innings and only allowed one earned run on five hits.

It will be a tough task to take down the AL Central leaders, although the pitching matchup might be beneficial for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. If they can attack early on and rely on Ryne Nelson to give the D-Backs some breathing room, Arizona could be in a position to get back in the win column. The first pitch at Comerica Park is at 10:10 a.m. PT.
