Dave Dombrowski Isn't Concerned About Phillies' Window of Contention Closing

The Philadelphia Phillies have been to the postseason each of the last three seasons. But, they've progressively made it shallower with each postseason run.

With multiple veterans set to hit free agency after this season and Zack Wheeler expressing his desire to retire after 2027, the Phillies' window of contention suddenly seems a lot less open.

But, in the face of those issues, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, in a piece from Todd Zolecki of MLB.com, shared his lack of concern over the Phillies' window potentially closing.

"I do think that we can keep having a good club for years to come," said Dombrowksi. It's a bold stance to take, especially in the face of potentially losing a lot of talent in the offseason.

But Dombrowski also shared comments from someone from another organization on the Phillies' window of contention potentially closing.

"Somebody from another organization said," Dombrowski said. "'I've never heard that statement more for an organization that also has really good pitching, some really good players, and six players that rank in the Top 100 prospects in Major League Baseball.'"

The Phillies have some great players, but some are set to hit free agency in the offseason. Kyle Schwarber, Ranger Suarez, and J.T. Realmuto are all set to hit free agency.

Schwarber has been one of the best hitters in baseball this season, with 32 home runs in 100 games played. Realmuto has turned things around lately and has brought his batting average up to .270 on the year.

Despite a rough start against the Los Angeles Angels, Suarez has a 2.66 ERA and a 7-4 record in 14 starts. He could've been an All-Star, but turned down the opportunity to focus on resting.

The Phillies could lose all three this offseason, which would significantly diminish their chances of winning a World Series in 2026.

Despite such a scenario being possible, Dombrowski isn't concerned. He downplays the potential that their window of contention is closing, and instead is confident in the organization for the years to come.
