Dave Roberts Confident In Dodgers Offense For Playoffs

The Los Angeles Dodgers had their worst month of the season in August, with a 13-14 record in that span. It was not a good showing for the offense in particular, as the team posted their lowest single-month run total of the season.

The 2026 season as a whole has not been the Dodgers’ best offensive performance of the last six years. L.A. has fallen outside the top two in runs scored for the first time since 2021.

However, things have been trending upwards recently and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts feels much better about the offense than he did a month ago.

“It’s just a relentless lineup. You can kind of stagger them left, right, all the way one through nine. There’s no easy outs,” Roberts said.” There’s a lot of guys that can slug you. We control the strike zone. And then now you get Kyle getting some hits. You get Teo slugging, getting some hits, and all the while taking his walks too.

“So this is the most we’ve had guys that are swinging the bats at the same time all year. It’s probably five guys that feel really good right now, where typically it’s one or two. So this is a good thing.”

The Dodgers’ offense has looked a lot more dynamic as of late thanks to the spark they received from Josue De Paula before he was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. De Paula’s chances of making the postseason roster are up in the air, but he does appear to have an edge over Dalton Rushing.

Though, getting De Paula into the lineup will be difficult with Shohei Ohtani occupying the designated hitter role and the rookie’s subpar defensive skillset. Still, having the 21-year-old’s bat at their disposal would be a boon for the Dodgers.

Dodgers clinch bye and home-field advantage in NLDS

The Dodgers clinched the No. 2 seed in the National League thanks to the Cincinnati Reds win over the Atlanta Braves late last week.

L.A. had already clinched their 14th consecutive postseason berth, which tied an MLB record.

The Dodgers now are awaiting the winner of the Wild Card Series matchup between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies won their final game of the season to clinch a Wild Card berth after going through a late swoon. Atlanta is hosting the best-of-three at Truist Park, beginning Tuesday.
