The Los Angeles Dodgers have gotten by just fine in Tyler Glasnow's absence, but that doesn't mean they don't miss him.
Following a strong start to the season, Glasnow has been out since May 6, when he was pulled from a start vs. the Houston Astros with back spasms.
The team has yet to announce a timeline for his return to the mound, and the latest update is far from encouraging.
According to Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, the right-hander isn't progressing as expected in his recovery.
"Dave Roberts said Tyler Glasnow 'hasn’t gotten over the hump' to ramp up his throwing progression beyond playing catch. Back isn’t bothering him, per se, but hasn’t been able to let it rip," Ardaya shared on X.
The 32-year-old was on a roll before his injury. He had posted a 3-0 record with a 2.72 ERA and 0.832 WHIP and 49 strikeouts in 39.2 innings of work.
The Dodgers aren't necessarily short on depth, but this could be a major concern for Dave Roberts' team if this ailment continues to linger.
He might be dealing with an undisclosed separate injury, or this could be much more serious than initially thought.
In the meantime, the Dodgers will continue to lean on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Emmett Sheehan and Roki Sasaki, with southpaw Justin Wrobleski also filling in on their six-man rotation.
Still, given the way the Dodgers have operated in recent years, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see them keep an eye out for another potential starter, with Tarik Skubal as the biggest fish who might become available at some point before the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
