Details surface on Tarik Skubal’s expected new contract

Tarik Skubal could become Major League Baseball’s latest $400 million man.

The Los Angeles Dodgers lefty Skubal is expected to set a new MLB standard for a free agent pitching-only contract this offseason, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported on Wednesday. Feinsand adds that Skubal should be considered a “near-lock” to receive such a deal.

Notably, Skubal’s Dodgers teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto currently holds the record for the richest pitching-only contract in Major League Baseball. Yamamoto is currently in the middle of a 10-year, $325 million contract with the Dodgers.

Meanwhile, Skubal is just entering his pitching prime and already comes with more than enough accolades to his name. Skubal was the American League’s back-to-back reigning Cy Young Award winner, is a two-time All-MLB First Team selection, and also won the Pitching Triple Crown in 2024.

The 29-year-old Skubal is still finding his groove with the Dodgers, going 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA over his first four starts. But with a strong October for the team, Skubal could really put himself in a position to rack up the dough.

If an interested team is willing to give Skubal an 11-to-12-year offer, he could easily surpass $400 million in total value on his next contract. It remains to be seen though if that team will ultimately be the Dodgers as not even their fans are fully convinced about Skubal just yet.
