The Detroit Tigers recently shared heartwarming news for longtime fans of Justin Verlander, confirming plans for a special two-day celebration of the veteran pitcher’s remarkable career.

The announcement came via the Tigers’ social media accounts just ahead of their series against the Cleveland Guardians, inviting supporters to Comerica Park on September 25 and 26 to honor Verlander’s contributions both on the field and in the broader Detroit community.

Those dates coincide with home games against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Organizers have prepared special merchandise and giveaways for attendees. Fans at the Friday night contest will receive a Justin Verlander bobblehead, while Saturday’s crowd can look forward to a long-sleeved jersey hoodie.

Tickets for both games begin at $15 and will remain available through September 7, with additional details accessible on the team’s dedicated event page.

Verlander, now 43, returned to Detroit on a one-year contract this past offseason. The right-hander was originally selected by the Tigers with the second overall pick in the 2004 draft and has spent the majority of his 21-year major league career in a Detroit uniform.

Across stops with the Tigers, Houston Astros, New York Mets, and San Francisco Giants, he has compiled a 266-159 record, 3,554 strikeouts, a 3.33 ERA, and a 1.14 WHIP in 556 appearances.

His trophy case includes ten All-Star selections, three American League Cy Young Awards, and two World Series championships.

His 2026 campaign has been limited by injury. Verlander has appeared in just one game, a March 30 outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks in which he allowed five earned runs over 3.2 innings.

Team updates have remained cautiously optimistic that he could still take the mound again before the season ends. Even so, his body of work with the Tigers alone—fourteen seasons, 2,374 strikeouts, 23 complete games, and seven shutouts—stands as a lasting testament to his impact.

The upcoming weekend in late September offers Tigers fans a chance to gather with Verlander’s family, friends, and teammates and reflect on the unforgettable moments that defined his time in Detroit.

Whether or not he adds any further innings this year, the celebration provides a fitting opportunity to recognize a career that has left an indelible mark on the franchise and the city.
