Detroit Tigers Pitcher Mysteriously Gets Suspended

The Detroit Tigers continue to endure a difficult stretch of baseball as their season winds down, and the latest setback arrived off the field.

After being walked off in both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians, the club now sits at 64-77 and finds itself well outside the American League playoff picture.

Any hope of a third consecutive postseason appearance would require an extraordinary late surge that currently looks improbable.

Amid those on-field struggles, left-handed reliever Enmanuel De Jesus has been suspended. Major League Baseball’s transactions list confirmed the penalty, but offered no explanation for it.

De Jesus last appeared for Detroit on August 21. In his time with the Tigers this year he has posted a 3.83 ERA, recorded 39 strikeouts, and carried a 1.25 WHIP while collecting one save.

The suspension marks the second time a Tigers pitcher has been disciplined this season.

Earlier, Framber Valdez received a five-game ban after intentionally throwing at Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story in May. The lack of detail surrounding De Jesus’s case leaves fans and observers waiting for further information from the league or the club.

De Jesus’ path to Detroit has been long and winding. Signed by the Boston Red Sox as a 16-year-old international free agent in 2013, he spent years developing in their minor-league system and reached Triple-A in 2021. He later moved through the San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins organizations.

Miami gave him his first major-league opportunity in September 2023. After two seasons pitching in South Korea with the Kiwoom Heroes and KT Wiz, he returned to the United States on a minor-league contract with the Tigers in December 2025.

Detroit added him to the 40-man roster in March 2026, and he made the Opening Day roster. He earned his first major-league win in his Tigers debut and later notched his first save by throwing four perfect innings against the Tampa Bay Rays, striking out four. He was optioned to Triple-A Toledo in June after Jack Flaherty returned from injury.

The Tigers finish their series with Cleveland on Saturday night before heading home to Comerica Park to face the Minnesota Twins.

How the club handles the latest roster uncertainty while trying to salvage the remainder of the schedule will be worth watching in the coming days.
