Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Tarik Skubal had another strong outing this afternoon on the road against the Cleveland Guardians. He faced a Guardians team that lost nine straight games. He took advantage of a team in freefall. Skubal tossed six scoreless innings and punched out 10. He walked away with a no-decision because Guardians Starting Pitcher Gavin Williams was also great.
He has been tremendous this season. He is tied for the league lead in wins, second in ERA, second in strikeouts, and leading the league in WHIP. Will he be able to maintain his high level of pitching this season?
Skubal debuted with the Detroit Tigers in 2020. He started showing flashes of the pitcher he would become during the 20223 season. He built on it with a 2024 season for the ages. He won the “pitching triple crown” and the AL Cy Young Award. The star lefty has followed up 2024 by pitching even better this season.
Skubal’s next scheduled start is at home on July 12 against the Seattle Mariners. It will be his final start of the first half of the season. He is also deserving of being named the American League starting pitcher in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. Regardless, the Tigers’ ace is in line for a second straight AL Cy Young Award.
