The Detroit Tigers start a crucial series with the Cleveland Guardians tonight. The Tigers currently lead the Guardians by 6.5 games entering tonight’s game. The Tigers this month are 5-7, averaging 5.7 runs per game while allowing 5.3 runs per game. Ahead of tonight’s game the Tigers are recalling left-handed pitcher Brant Hurter from Triple-A Toledo, and he will be available for tonight’s game. The Tigers also optioned right-handed pitcher Brenan Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo to make room for Hurter.

Brant Hurter

Hurter, in 38 games with the Tigers this season, with four of those coming as starts, went 3-3. He has two saves, a 2.45 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 62 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. In three games at Triple-A Toledo, he went 0-1. Hurter posted a 9.82 ERA, a 1.36 WHIP, and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Hurter in the Tigers’ postseason run last year pitched in two games, going 1-0 without allowing a run on seven hits. He walked two and struck out one in five innings.

Brenan Hanifee

Hanifee in 54 games for the Tigers this season is 3-3 with a 3.00 ERA, a 1.32 WHIP, and 40 strikeouts in 60 innings. In four games at Triple-A Toledo, he posted a 2.25 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and five strikeouts in four innings of work.
