Detroit Tigers Starting Pitcher Tarik Skubal is the best pitcher in the league. He added to his lore with a great start last night at home against the Minnesota Twins. He surrendered one hit over seven scoreless innings while punching out 13. He is the first pitcher in franchise history with 13+ strikeouts while allowing no more than one hit.
This is also the third time the ace had 13 strikeouts on fewer than 95 pitches. That’s the most 13+ strikeout games on sub-95 pitches since pitch counts have been tracked. It has been another great season for Skubal. He is the fifth pitcher since 1900 with 125+ strikeouts and fewer than 15 walks in the first 17 starts of a season. He is also tied for the league lead in wins, sixth in ERA, and first in strikeouts and WHIP. Will he continue pitching at this high a level?

Skubal debuted with the Detroit Tigers in 2020. He started showing flashes of the pitcher he would become during the 20223 season. He responded with a 2024 season for the ages. He won the “pitching triple crown” and won the AL Cy Young Award. The star lefty has followed up 2024 by pitching even better this season.
Skubal’s next scheduled start is on the road against the Cleveland Guardians on July 5. The last he faced Cleveland, he had a masterful outing. He tossed a complete game shutout and punched out 13. If he can continue pitching this well, another Cy Young is in his future.
