Detroit Tigers With a Miserable 13-Game Stretch
Imagn Images

The Detroit Tigers have looked like the worst team in Major League Baseball over the last 13 games. Detroit is the only team in league history to have a 13-game stretch where they were outscored by 50 or more, were outhit by 50 or more, had fewer than 25 XBH, and struck out 125 or more times. To add insult to injury, the Detroit Tigers had the league’s best record before these awful few weeks. Can Detroit regain its form from earlier in the season?

Detroit Tigers Season Summary

Unsurprisingly, the Detroit Tigers have slid down the standings. They now have the third-best record in the American League. Detroit’s offense, once one of the league’s best units, has taken a hit. They are 17th in batting average, ninth in home runs, and sixth in runs scored. Left Fielder Riley Greene is still top 10 in the league in home runs and RBI, though.

Detroit’s pitching staff has also been battered. They are 11th in team ERA, 14th in opposing batting average, and 10th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Tarik Skubal is putting together another CY Young-caliber campaign to steady the unit. He is seventh in the league in wins, second in ERA, second in strikeouts, and leading the league in WHIP.

Final Thoughts

The Detroit Tigers will look to snap their six-game losing streak this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays. Detroit once looked like a World Series favorite. Now, they are looking to string a good 9 innings together. Fortunes can certainly change over a few poor weeks.
