After suffering a late-night loss on Saturday, the Arizona Diamondbacks have designated RHP Nabil Crismatt for assignment while simultaneously recalling RHP Ryan Thompson from Triple-A Reno
Nabil Crismatt began this season with the Padres. However, during his time in San Diego, the 28-year-old reliever struggled significantly, leading to his release in early June after posting a 9.82 ERA through seven appearances.
Following his release, the Diamondbacks acquired Crismatt to join the Reno team on July 1st. Even so, it wasn’t until last night that the Diamondbacks gave Crismatt an opportunity to pitch in a game.
With seven pitchers already used, Arizona didn’t have many other options. And, for a brief moment, it appeared that Crismatt had provided the Diamondbacks with a good opportunity to secure a walk-off victory in the bottom of the 11th.
But, his lack of experience came back to haunt him. With two outs, two strikes, and a runner on third, Nabil Crismatt balked, allowing the go-ahead run to score.
Despite Crismatt’s final line of two innings, zero earned runs, and three strikeouts, he still ended up being accounted for the loss.

In exchange for sending Nabil Crismatt back to Reno, the Diamondbacks have recalled RHP Ryan Thompson.
Thompson was also released by his original team over the summer before the Diamondbacks picked him up.
This will be the first time on the Diamondbacks’ roster for the 31-year-old. While with the Rays earlier this year, Thompson had a 6.11 ERA through 17 innings.
