Diamondbacks eye crucial series sweep on Wednesday over White Sox

CHICAGO – After back-to-back wins in Chicago over the White Sox, the Diamondbacks are poised to complete the sweep and continue building momentum.

The Diamondbacks have dealt with a barrage of injuries on this road trip including an injury to Ildemaro Vargas last night that led to a fractured foot. If Arizona wants to be able to keep the bats alive, they are going to need all hands on deck going forward.

Pitching on Wednesday afternoon:

Arizona will send Zac Gallen to the mound on Wednesday. Gallen has struggled in June, but facing a struggling White Sox lineup could be the perfect chance to turn things around. Despite a rocky 5.60 ERA this season, he still possesses swing-and-miss stuff and excellent command when he’s on. In Gallen’s last outing, he gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits to the lowly Colorado Rockies.

The White Sox will be starting Sean Burke, a young right-hander still trying to find consistency in the big leagues. Burke has shown flashes of potential, but with the Diamondbacks lineup heating up, he’ll have his hands full. Burke pitched 5.1 innings and only allowed two runs on four hits against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to wrap up their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox this afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field, with first pitch scheduled for 11:10 p.m. PT.
