Diamondbacks release spring training schedule, invites fans to practices

Baseball season is right around the corner, and the Arizona Diamondbacks take the field for spring training next month.

Feb. 12 marks the first day of practices for the Diamondbacks as the teams catchers and pitchers break in the new season at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale. Workouts will be open to the public according to an official press release from Arizona Diamondbacks Communication.

The other players on the team will join its counterparts stuck at the mound and behind the plate on Feb. 17 for the first full-team workout, preceding a quick turnaround for the first game of the spring.

The Diamondbacks’ 34-game preseason schedule starts on Feb. 21, where the first pitch will be thrown out at Salt River against the Colorado Rockies. They’ll play the Rockies again the following day, seeing Colorado claim the home team spot at Salt River.

Arizona has had a busy last couple of weeks ahead of their preseason preparation, losing first baseman Christian Walker to the Houston Astros in December after spending eight seasons with the team; however, the Diamondbacks quickly made waste of that worry, trading pitcher Slade Cecconi for former Cleveland Guardian Josh Naylor and filled the pitching vacancy with 2021 National League Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes, who signed a six-year, $210 million contract with the D-Backs on Dec. 27.

Don’t put a nail in front office acquisitions just yet, there is still work to be done for an organization that missed the postseason last year after losing in the World Series two seasons ago. With that in mind, while it is always a constant search to find players who can improve the team, its time for the ones who’re already here to start getting ready.

The Diamondbacks first spring practice starts at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Salt River Fields. Parking will be available in the Desert Lot on the north side of the complex. To purchase tickets for spring games go to dbacks.com/spring.
