Diamondbacks Top Prospect Named PCL Player of the Month

The Diamondbacks' top prospect continues to receive accolades, as infielder Jordan Lawlar was named the Pacific Coast League's Player of the Month for April 2025. For the month of April, Lawlar slashed .408/.487/.748 with six home runs, 10 stolen bases, and a 204 wRC+ in 25 games.

Among players in the Pacific Coast League with 100 plate appearances this season, Lawlar has been arguably the best offensive player statistically. In that group, he leads the league in batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.643), OPS (1.084), and wRC+ (167). His 12 stolen bases rank second behind Oklahoma City's Hyeseong Kim's 13.

It's great that Arizona's top prospect has gotten off to a strong start to the season. He missed much of the 2024 season due to thumb and hamstring injuries, only playing in 12 games in Triple-A. He's making up for lost time with his hot start and hopefully the reps gained from this year will allow him to be more prepared for his next big league stint.

Despite a strong spring, he was optioned to Triple-A Reno due to a lack of consistent everyday opportunities at the major league level. With Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo, and Eugenio Suárez established at the three infield spots, there wasn't any playing time left for Lawlar.

In his time with Triple-A Reno, Lawlar has played half his time at second base. 15 of his 30 starts have come at that position, as the team tries to find more creative ways to possibly fit him on the major league roster.

While Lawlar has taken to the new position fairly well, he was passed up for a promotion opportunity in favor of Tim Tawa when Marte hit the injured list to a hamstring injury April 5. At that juncture Lawlar had only three games played at second base in his professional career.

Lawlar wasn't the only prospect to get accolades. Right-handed pitcher Dylan Ray was named the Texas League Player of the Week for April 28-May 4. Ray fired six scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and eight strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Midland.
