The Arizona Diamondbacks, currently posting a 37–37 record and positioned fourth in the NL West—trailing the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers by eight games—are navigating a challenging stretch as they push for a playoff spot.
The season’s expectations took a major hit when offseason acquisition and Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes was lost to Tommy John surgery, a setback that comes as a huge blow to the team’s playoff aspirations.
Despite the mediocre record, the Diamondbacks have shown strength on the offensive side; they rank third in runs per game at 5.1 and fourth in home runs with 104, while posting a team-wide .442 slugging percentage and .772 OPS, both of which rank them third in the league.
A significant contributor to this offensive output is Corbin Carroll, though he missed the last game after being hit by a pitch in the hand.
On MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo offered an encouraging update.
“He's getting very close," Lovullo said. "I think we really dodged the bullet. It's in a very, very sensitive space, but the ball got a lot of meat instead of a lot of bone. So hopefully sooner rather than later.”
“At this point in time... [Corbin Carroll] is not in the lineup.”

Carroll, the 2023 Rookie of the Year and an All-Star who played a key role in leading the Diamondbacks to the World Series in 2023, continues to stand out for his contributions this season.
He has already accumulated an impressive 2.7 WAR over 72 games, tallying 20 home runs and 10 stolen bases while posting a .255 batting average and a .914 OPS.
His availability remains a critical component for Arizona’s success as the team navigates recent setbacks in its quest for a postseason berth.
