Diamondbacks trade former All-Star lefty Robbie Ray to Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have added another pitcher to their roster as they attempt to break into the postseason for the first time since 2016.

According to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays have acquired left-hander Robbie Ray from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale adds that the Diamondbacks weren't going to tender Ray a qualifying offer and knew they had to trade him.

Ray is 1-4 on the 2020 campaign with a 7.84 ERA, 43 strikeouts and a -0.6 wins above replacement score in 31 innings pitched. He'll join a Blue Jays rotation that includes Hyun Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson and Taijuan Walker.

The 28-year-old also drew interest from the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Houston Astros, among others.
