Legendary college basketball broadcaster Dick Vitale raised the ire of baseball fans on Friday by supposedly jinxing a no-hit bid.
Vitale eagerly pointed out on X Friday that Cincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Martinez had no-hit the San Diego Padres through eight innings at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Oh. After a walk, Martinez allowed a double to catcher Elias Diaz, ending the no-hit bid with nobody out in the ninth.
Vitale was immediately criticized for “jinxing” the no-hitter, but he was not having it.
U can’t be serious all you baseball wackos blaming me for Nick Martinez losing his no hitter in the 9th since I posted that he had a no hitter going to the 9th.Hell I was just trying to let baseball lovers know to go check it out. Wow I am getting crushed like my @RaysBaseball…

The good news for Vitale is that there was another figure that could easily be blamed for the jinx. The two of them were hardly the only ones posting about the no-hit bid, either.
Vitale recently confirmed he will be back with ESPN for another season of college basketball. Presumably, he will not be jinxing any no-hitters from that perch.
