Dodgers among potential Aroldis Chapman trade suitors

The Boston Red Sox are more than likely to be sellers at the MLB trade deadline.

Aug. 3 is just weeks away, and with a 40-48 record, it would take a nearly unprecedented run for the Red Sox to hold onto this core for the remainder of the season.

Notably, that has raised doubts about Aroldis Chapman's future with the organization.

He's been one of the best closers in baseball this season, and he might be their most valuable trade asset right now. Considering that, ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel listed his best fits and potential landing spots, including the two-time defending champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“Relief pitchers are often some of the most impactful deadline acquisitions, and Boston’s closer is as effective as ever. Chapman doesn’t throw as hard as he once did, but he now works with four distinct pitches. He’s still throwing his fastball in the high 90s, which is plenty of velocity when hitters also have to gear up for his slider and splitter,” the article read. “Here’s the greatest truism of the deadline: everyone needs a good reliever. Teams will climb over each other for Chapman.”

The insiders also listed the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Guardians and Philadelphia Phillies.

Notably, they didn't include the New York Yankees, a team that was also linked to a move for the "Cuban Missile" earlier in the season. Chapman claimed that they would have to apologize to him for how things ended between them, so he might not be that eager to head back to the Bronx.

Whatever the case, Chapman has turned back the clock with his best season in years. The eight-time All-Star has made 28 appearances, logging 18 saves with a 2.63 ERA, 35 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP in 26.2 innings of work, per Baseball Reference
