Dodgers Announce Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow News

Snell made a total of four minor league rehab starts and reached 73 pitches in his previous outing on August 4. Expect the southpaw to go about five innings, 80 pitches in his first start back with the Dodgers tonight.

Snell missed the last three months of action after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow.

The lefty has been limited to just one start this season with the Dodgers, where he gave up five runs (four earned) in three innings on May 9.

Since signing a five-year, $182 million deal with Los Angeles in the 2024-2025 offseason, Snell has made just 12 regular season starts. He did, however, make six appearances (five starts) while posting a 3.18 ERA in the postseason last year. The Dodgers went on to win the 2025 World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The other good news for the Dodgers is that right-hander Tyler Glasnow will make two more rehab starts before being activated from the injured list. Glasnow will start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, where the goal is to throw 60 pitches over four innings. He will make one more rehab outing after that before rejoining the Dodgers' rotation.

Glasnow has been on the IL since May 8 with a lower back injury. He has been limited to just seven starts this season, but has produced a 2.72 ERA. When healthy, Glasnow is one of the best starters in baseball. The problem is that he has dealt with a slew of injury issues for the past several seasons.

The Dodgers went out and got the crown jewel of the MLB trade deadline this year, landing back-to-back Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers for a package of three top prospects: Zyhir Hope, River Ryan and Brady Smith.

Snell will now slot into the Dodgers' rotation next to Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Justin Wrobleski, Roki Sasaki, Eric Lauer and eventually Shohei Ohtani and Glasnow.

At full strength, the Dodgers have eight capable starting pitchers. But as the old adage goes, "you can never have too much pitching." Los Angeles has definitely dealt with their fair share of pitching injuries this year and in recent years.

The Dodgers enter play on Tuesday evening with a 71-48 record and 7.5 game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West. They've lost two of their last 10 games.

Los Angeles is looking to become the first MLB team to three-peat since the New York Yankees did so in 1998, 1999 and 2000.
