Dodgers' Dave Roberts Announces Bad Teoscar Hernández News

The Los Angeles Dodgers have lost the first two games to the Houston Astros this weekend with the series finishing up Sunday afternoon. Things got worse for the Dodgers today when manager Dave Roberts gave an update on outfielder Teoscar Hernández.

Hernández fouled a pitch off of his left foot in Saturday night's game. Although he stayed in the game last night, he is out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale.

Dave Roberts said Hernández will get scans on his left foot to reveal anything further from the foul ball off his foot.

After producing an impressive 2024 campaign in his first year with the Dodgers, earning a trip to the All-Star game and winning a Silver Slugger award, along with a career-high 4.3 WAR, Hernandez earned a big extension this offseason.

The Dodgers signed the veteran outfielder to a three-year, $66 million contract. Hernández's numbers have slightly dipped in 2025, but he's still hitting .257 with a .758 OPS, 14 home runs and 56 RBI.

Hernández has been a consistent bat in the middle of the Dodgers lineup. In addition to Hernández, utility player Tommy Edman is also out of the Dodgers' lineup Sunday after being hit by a pitch on his right pinky toe in Saturday's game.

Similar to Hernández, Edman signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers for the 2024 season, and earned an additional contract for 2025 for his performance last year.

Both players have provided consistent play for Los Angeles over the last two years to add depth to their star heavy top of the lineup.

Hernández and Edman rank third and seventh on the team in home runs and fourth and eighth in RBI, respectively.

The Dodgers remain the top team in the National League and tied for the best record in the MLB at 56-34, but are at risk of being swept by their new rival Astros on Sunday.

After losing the first two games of the weekend series and dealing with injuries, the Dodgers will have a plethora of young players rounding out their lineup Sunday afternoon.

Rookie Hyeseong Kim will be at second base, batting sixth; young prospect Dalton Rushing will be catching and batting eighth; and young outfielder Esteury Ruiz will be in right field, batting ninth.

The Dodgers and Astros play their series finale Sunday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.
