Dodgers interested in free-agent 1B Freddie Freeman?

Freddie Freeman is one of the biggest free agents available, and his market is expected to heat up now that the MLB lockout is over. Several top teams have interest in Freeman, including one of his past rivals.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Los Angeles Dodgers have sincere interest in Freeman. Morosi says the New York Yankees and Freeman’s Atlanta Braves are also interested in the first baseman.

Freeman was drafted by the Braves in 2007 and has spent his entire career with them, making five All-Star teams. He has led the league in runs scored the last two years and won NL MVP during the shortened 2020 season.

Though he’s 32, teams likely believe Freeman still is a big impact bat with more years left in his prime.

The Dodgers have been linked to Freeman throughout the offseason, with one of their players reportedly recruiting the first baseman. The Yankees have also been linked to Freeman.

The Dodgers and Braves have met in the NLCS two years in a row, with Freeman helping Atlanta prevail last year en route to a World Series win. If he changed sides in the rivalry, that would be a big swing should the teams meet in the postseason for a third year in a row.
