Dodgers Make Announcement on Mookie Betts After Injury News

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Mookie Betts for the rest of their World Series rematch with the New York Yankees, but could get the star shortstop back on the field not long afterward.

Betts had stubbed a toe of his left foot at his home on Wednesday and was listed as day-to-day, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that he will likely avoid a trip to the IR.

Roberts said the immediate future will focus on mitigating pain for Betts.

"Once we get the swelling out, get the pain to subside a little bit, it’s going to be the whole, ‘It is what it is,’ for quite some time," Roberts told reporters on Saturday, via MLB.com. "So probably don’t think that four days vs. 14 days or 15 days [on the IL] is going to make much of a difference.”

In the immediate future, the Dodgers are focused on replicating their World Series success against the Yankees. The Dodgers took the opening game of their three-game set on Friday, with Shohei Ohtani opening the scoring with a home run in the first inning and adding another in the sixth inning as part of a four-run inning that put the Dodgers in the lead for good.

The Dodgers have found success this season despite some odd injuries. Before Betts stubbed his toe at home, Freddie Freeman aggravated his surgically repaired ankle after slipping in the shower.

"It just keeps coming. It's Murphy's law," Roberts said. "But yeah, this is a weird one."
