Dodgers make flurry of moves before Rockies clash

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued reshaping their roster before Monday’s series opener vs. the Colorado Rockies, making multiple moves that affected both the bullpen and the 40-man roster.

The biggest development was the return of Evan Phillips, who gives the Dodgers another experienced relief option after a long recovery from Tommy John surgery. Phillips’ activation adds needed depth to a bullpen that has required steady management, especially as the club works through the middle portion of the season and prepares for another series with the Rockies.

The Dodgers also added right-hander Carlos Duran to the 40-man roster, keeping another power arm in their immediate plans. Duran has pitched for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season and entered the move with a 3.86 ERA, 50 strikeouts, and 35 innings, giving Los Angeles a reason to protect his spot in the organization.

The club announced the first part of the roster shuffle on X, formerly Twitter, before the series opener.

“The Dodgers added RHP Carlos Duran to the 40-man roster and designated catcher Chuckie Robinson for assignment.”

The club returned to the platform shortly after the original post, confirming the pitching moves that brought Phillips back to the active roster.

“The Dodgers reinstated RHP Evan Phillips and optioned RHP Paul Gervase. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers released LHP Jake Eder.”

The transactions also reflected the cost of roster flexibility. Paul Gervase returned to Oklahoma City, Jake Eder was released, and Chuckie Robinson was designated for assignment after a brief major league stint.

For the Dodgers, the moves give the bullpen a healthier late-inning option while preserving Duran as a depth piece. The moves also show how actively the front office continues to adjust the roster as the season moves deeper into July.
