Dodgers Make Intriguing Trade With Cardinals Amid Pitching Injuries

Loutos has only made three Major League appearances, all of which came last season with St. Louis. He finished all three games and did not allow a run over two and 1/3 innings. Loutos originally signed with the Cardinals in 2021 as a free agent after going undrafted.

He did have a very solid 2024 campaign for Triple-A Memphis, going 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA and 10 strikeouts per nine innings over 47 appearances and 53 innings. A college starter, Loutos has only seen time as a reliever since 2022.

This is not the trade some Dodgers fans may have anticipated to patch things up, and it is currently unclear if Loutos will even get a chance at the Major League level this summer.

However, with Tyler Glasnow shut down from pitching, Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list, and Clayton Kershaw having not yet pitched this season, Los Angeles was in no position to refuse support.

Plus, the bullpen is deteriorating with Kopech and Treinen transferred to the 60-day IL. Loutos’ best path to playing time is likely through a drained bullpen or consecutive heavy workloads.

Feyereisen, the final piece of the puzzle, returns to the Dodgers after a 10-game stint in 2024 that saw him record an 8.18 ERA and 6.71 FIP over 11 innings.
