Max Muncy is in his tenth major-league season after debuting with the Oakland Athletics in 2015.
After struggling to find his stride in Oakland, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018, where over the past eight seasons he has experienced a career turnaround.
During his Dodgers tenure, Muncy has collected 701 hits, 203 home runs and 575 RBIs across 905 games, playing a massive role in Los Angeles’ World Series victories in 2020 and 2024.
He has also appeared in two All-Star Games at third base, cementing his reputation as one of the game’s best corner infielders.
In a 5–4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, Michael A. Taylor attempted to steal third base, colliding with Muncy as the Dodgers’ third baseman applied the tag. Muncy grabbed his left knee upon hitting the dirt and was removed from the contest immediately.
As he undergoes further testing—including an MRI on Thursday—the Dodgers called up Esteury Ruiz to take his roster spot.

Los Angeles acquired the speedy outfielder from the Athletics in April in exchange for minor-league right-hander Carlos Durán.
After a slow start to 2025, Muncy has been among baseball’s hottest hitters of late. In June, over 78 plate appearances, he batted .333, smashed seven home runs and drove in 24 runs—timely production that offset the June struggles of stars like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts.
Muncy’s efforts of late have helped the Dodgers extend their NL West division lead to 8.5 games entering Thursday’s series finale against the White Sox, and if he misses extended time, it would be a huge loss.
