The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated outfielder Teoscar Hernández from the 10-day injured list Monday ahead of their series opener against the Athletics , ending a month-long absence caused by a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers optioned rookie outfielder Ryan Ward to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Hernández's return gives Los Angeles one of its top middle-of-the-order bats back as it opens a three-game road series while continuing to lead the National League West.

Hernández, 33, is in his third season with the Dodgers after initially signing a one-year contract before the 2024 season and later agreeing to a three-year extension through 2027. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in 2011, he has also played for the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. A two-time All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger Award winner, 2024 Home Run Derby champion and World Series champion, Hernández had appeared in 51 games before the injury, batting .276 with a .348 on-base percentage, a .785 OPS, seven home runs and 31 RBIs.

During a four-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Hernández batted 3-for-13 with three home runs and six RBIs, homering in each of his first three games. The performance indicated he had recovered sufficiently from the hamstring strain to return to everyday duties.

Hernández's activation strengthens a Dodgers lineup that has remained among baseball's best despite several injuries this season. During his absence, Ward, Tommy Edman, and Alex Call shared time in left field. Ward returns to Triple-A after batting .218 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in the big leagues this season. The club plans to ease Hernández back into regular action during a stretch of 13 consecutive games without an off day.

The move also comes as the Dodgers play without catcher Will Smith, who was recently placed on the injured list with neck inflammation. Hernández's return restores another proven run producer to the lineup and gives Los Angeles additional offensive depth for the schedule ahead.

Los Angeles enters the series with a 54-30 record, holding an 11-game lead over the San Diego Padres after winning seven of its last 10 games. After opening the road series against the Athletics, the Dodgers return home for a four-game series against the Padres.

Hernández's return at full strength could not come at a better time for a Dodgers lineup managing injuries across the roster, and his presence in the middle of the lineup gives Los Angeles its best chance to maintain separation in the NL West through the second half.
