Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Gives Update on Hyeseong Kim

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a roster loaded with talent, including one player who has been great in his limited action. Speedy utility player Hyeseong Kim is hitting .383 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 81 at-bats. According to Valentina Martinez at Dodgers Nation, the 26-year-old could be poised for more playing time

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has previously expressed a desire to play Kim more, especially with how well he has performed.

“I think that Hyeseong has earned opportunities, and I don’t want to get him to lose his mojo and sit for four or five, six days and expect good at-bats,” Roberts said. “So I think that he’s earning the opportunity to get somewhat of a consistent look, and we’ll go from there.”

Kim brings dynamic speed, elite defense, and versatile athleticism to the Dodgers. With hitting that has surprised some people early in his MLB career, Kim is emerging as more than a utility option. He offers a major boost off the bench, but Martinez says he could serve as more than that if Tommy Edman moves to the outfield.

"Edman spent three weeks on the injured list with a right ankle sprain, returning to the lineup May 18," Martinez said. "Now that his ankle has recovered well enough, the team plans on putting Edman in the outfield more often."

If Edman moves to replace someone like Michael Conforto in left field, who has struggled mightily at the plate this season, Martinez believes it would put Kim in his more natural and "best" position, at second base. If his early-season performances and four Gold Glove awards as a middle infielder with the Korean Baseball Organization are any indication, Kim could become a major chess piece for the Dodgers.
