Dodgers manager Dave Roberts not expecting Clayton Kershaw back until September

Clayton Kershaw will return to the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. However, he likely won't pitch for another month.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Kershaw isn't expected to return until "sometime in September," according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The veteran left-hander is on the 10-day injured list with forearm inflammation in his pitching arm. He has not pitched since July 3, when he allowed three runs in four innings against the Washington Nationals.

Kershaw's absence has left a massive hole in the Dodgers' rotation, which is also without Trevor Bauer as Major League Baseball and the Pasadena Police Department continue to investigate sexual assault allegations against him.

L.A. currently has only three full-time starters remaining in Max Scherzer, Walker Buehler and Julio Urias. The Dodgers are second in the NL West with a 65-44 record, four games behind the division-leading San Francisco Giants.

Kershaw was enjoying a solid season before being placed on the injured list, going 9-7 with a 3.39 ERA, 0.978 WHIP and 127 strikeouts in 106.1 innings.
