Dodgers' Mookie Betts doesn't need surgery on hip; no timetable for return

The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided a disaster as it pertains to the sore right hip that has five-time All-Star outfielder Mookie Betts sidelined.

According to ESPN, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters ahead of Friday's game at the New York Mets that Betts has a bone spur in his right hip and had an injection to help with the pain. The 28-year-old is considered day-to-day but has no immediate timetable for a return.

Betts will attempt to play through the issue when he returns and then possibly have offseason surgery to address the matter.

Betts hasn't played since last Saturday and was placed on the injured list Wednesday. He is slashing .277/.378/.521 with 17 home runs and 44 RBI in 87 games this season.

Without Betts' services, the Dodgers lost at the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday to fall to 69-46 on the campaign. Los Angeles trails the first-place San Francisco Giants in the National League West division standings by five games going into Friday's MLB action.
